Adult Children of Alcoholics

Janet Woititz

“Adult Children of Alcoholics” (ACA) is a fellowship founded in the 1970s for individuals seeking recovery from the effects of growing up in alcoholic or otherwise dysfunctional families. These adult children share common characteristics resulting from their upbringing, including low self-esteem, relationship challenges, impulsivity, and a tendency to select alcoholic partners. ACA provides a safe space for healing, allowing members to grieve their childhood experiences, identify core trauma, and break free from shame and abandonment. Through the Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, ACA fosters self-love and empowers individuals to become their own loving parents.
